Something is wrong with your mother, but the changes are not always easy to recognize. That’s Not My Mom is a first-person psychological horror game where you play as an elementary school boy returning home after school. Each visit brings new abnormalities inside the house, while your mother’s behavior becomes increasingly suspicious. Reports of similar incidents suggest that the problem extends beyond your family. Your objective is to identify the anomalies and discover what is causing the disturbing events throughout the city.
The gameplay revolves around exploring familiar rooms and noticing anything unusual. You walk through the house from a first-person perspective, examining furniture, decorations, and other environmental details. Remembering how everything normally looks is important because some anomalies are less obvious than others. A familiar object may appear different, or something unexpected may occupy an ordinary location. You must examine your surroundings carefully instead of simply rushing through the house.
That’s Not My Mom focuses on observation rather than conventional combat. Each return home provides another opportunity to investigate the environment and discover changes connected to the mysterious outbreak.
The main gameplay activities include:
As the investigation continues, the ordinary home environment becomes increasingly threatening. The protagonist must question whether the person he recognizes as his mother is truly who she appears to be. Strange events throughout the city suggest that other people may be experiencing similar problems.
That’s Not My Mom does not use traditional combat levels, character upgrades, or a weapon-based survival system. Its progression follows repeated visits to the house, with different anomalies and story events appearing as the mystery develops.
The main challenge is paying attention to familiar surroundings and recognizing when something is no longer normal. Rather than defeating enemies, you must rely on observation and memory to understand what is happening. The story gradually connects the suspicious events inside the house with the larger anomaly outbreak, making the search for the truth the central objective.
