Cosmic Forge begins with a small supply of basic materials and gradually develops into a space civilization capable of exploring distant star systems. This incremental strategy game combines resource production, scientific research, automation, and space exploration. Your task is to build an economy that can support increasingly complicated technologies. As you progress, you discover a larger story involving the lost homeworld of Miaplacidus and a mysterious disturbance in space-time known as the Cosmic Rip.
At the beginning, you generate resources manually and decide how to use them. Materials can be stored for construction, sold to earn money, or combined into compounds. Expanding production requires new facilities and reliable energy supplies. Power plants consume fuel, so increasing production without managing energy can create shortages. Research unlocks additional systems that improve efficiency and provide opportunities to automate repetitive tasks.
As your economy grows, you gain access to technologies that support more complicated projects. Space mining provides additional resources, while telescopes allow you to study distant stars. Eventually, you can construct a modular starship and prepare expeditions beyond your original system.
The main gameplay activities include:
Cosmic Forge features a rebirth system that allows you to begin another cycle with permanent advantages. Traveling to new star systems provides Ascendency Points, which can be spent on upgrades that improve future runs. These bonuses help you rebuild your economy faster and reach advanced technologies more efficiently.
The game does not use conventional numbered levels. Progression follows technological milestones, space exploration, and increasingly complicated objectives. Eventually, your journey leads toward reclaiming Miaplacidus and investigating the Cosmic Rip. This anomaly is connected to the conflict threatening your civilization. The final challenges involve locating the disturbance, stabilizing it, securing the surrounding area, and closing it permanently. Completing these objectives brings the main storyline to its conclusion, although you can continue developing your civilization afterward.
