Clangen is a procedural clan simulation game centered on long-term population management and emergent storytelling. The player oversees a group of wild cats organized into a structured hierarchy with defined ranks and responsibilities. Each character is generated with statistical attributes such as personality alignment, health indicators, age category, and social compatibility metrics. These attributes influence how events are calculated and how relationships evolve over time. Progression occurs through discrete time steps known as moons, with each moon triggering automated updates and narrative developments.

Establishing A Clan And Core Roles

At the beginning of a new session, the player selects a gameplay mode and generates the founding members of the clan. Essential roles—including leader, deputy, medicine cat, warriors, apprentices, kits, and elders—must be assigned according to eligibility conditions. The clan receives a unique name and is placed in a selected camp environment. Once activated, the simulation begins to process seasonal cycles, demographic changes, and internal interactions.

The user interface is divided into functional sections, including event logs, clan overview panels, patrol management, and individual member profiles. Each profile stores lineage data, mentorship records, mate connections, and relational standing within the group. As time advances, cats transition between ranks, form alliances or rivalries, and experience health-related events determined by system rules.

Patrol Operations And Event Generation

Patrols are a primary decision-based mechanic. The player selects combinations of cats for missions, and outcomes are generated through probability models influenced by traits and rank balance. Patrol results may alter experience levels, produce injuries, adjust territorial standing, or introduce narrative incidents. Certain scenarios present branching choices that modify risk or reward calculations.

Core gameplay systems include:

  •         Randomized character data generation
  •         Rank progression and succession tracking
  •         Patrol outcome algorithms
  •         Relationship value monitoring
  •         Birth, aging, and mortality cycles

Generational Progression And System Depth

Clangen supports extended generational play without a fixed conclusion. Leadership succession occurs naturally when leaders retire or die, and demographic balance shifts as new litters are born. The simulation emphasizes structured variability, ensuring that each clan history develops differently. Long-term stability depends on population management, mentorship continuity, and social cohesion metrics. Clangen is available as a free community-developed project and continues to expand through iterative updates that refine systems and introduce additional configuration options.
